You think CERN, you think physics, not civil engineering! It took some time to navigate the systems and internal processes, but with the help of my team, I was able to find my footing and see just how crucial the civil engineers are to CERN's success.

For me, working at CERN means having the chance to deepen my knowledge in the incredible field of physics — but it’s also so much more than that. It’s an experience that exposes me to true multidisciplinarity, where I get to learn every day from experts.

Coming from a mechanical technician apprenticeship, I’ve found myself in a unique role — both a technician and a mechanical designer for the technical coordination team of one of the four main detectors on the LHC, the LHCb.

My work focuses on implementing new functionalities and statistics on the ATLAS calorimeter to identify the most problematic boards and components to prevent future problems.

This experience is full of “firsts” – the first climb, the first time I moved to another city, and the first job are all moments I’ll cherish forever.

Ever since I started university, I’ve always been most passionate about courses that were deeply rooted in Physics. I was never satisfied just plugging numbers into formulas, I always wanted to understand the principles behind them.

Working at CERN is a great opportunity for me to build on the experience I gained during my apprenticeship.
