Programme overview

Every year, CERN offers apprenticeships in a unique scientific and multicultural environment. Combining hands-on training with expert mentorship, apprentices gain practical skills and earn a Federal Certificate of Capacity (CFC). Opportunities are available in the following fields:

  • Document Information Specialist (CFC): Focus on organising and managing critical information. (3 years)
  • Electronics Technician (CFC): Learn to design, develop, and maintain electronic systems. (4 years)
  • Physics Laboratory Technician (CFC): Explore experimental physics and laboratory operations. (4 years)
  • Polymechanic (CFC): Train in advanced mechanics and mechatronics. (4 years)

What we offer

  • An apprenticeship contract lasting 3 to 4 years with 1 to 2 days of theoretical training at the school, depending on the position.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality
    You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
    Our Member and Associate Member States
  • Educational background
    You have completed your compulsory schooling (e.g. “11ème” in Switzerland or “3ème” in France).
  • Language skills
    You have a good knowledge of English, French and/or German.

Recruitment process for this programme

  1. Submit application
    Apply with your CV (in English or French) and complete the online application before the deadline.
    Add a cover letter and your last 3 school reports.
  2. Application review, interview and selection
    Your application will be reviewed and you may be invited to take part in an online interview with the hiring manager(s) to discuss your application, CERN and the position, and for you both to determine if it could be a good fit.
  3. Offer and onboarding
    If you are successful, you will receive a job offer. Once you accept, your onboarding journey begin!
