Programme overview

Through a combination of hands-on training with expert mentorship, apprentices gain practical skills and earn a Federal Certificate of Capacity (CFC). Opportunities are available in the following fields:

  • Information and Document Assistant / Agent-e en information documentaire (AID) (CFC): Focus on organising and managing critical information (3 years). Further information: cern-apprentissage-aid@cern.ch
  • Technical Apprenticeships (CFC). Further information: apprentis.techniques@cern.ch
    • Electronics Technician/Électronicien-ne (CFC): Learn to design, develop, and maintain electronic systems. (4 years)
    • Physics Laboratory Technician/ Laborantin-e en physique (CFC): Conduct experiments, design experimental setups, and apply measurement techniques to test, verify, and ensure quality control.
    • Polymechanic/Polymécanicien-ne (CFC ) : Train in advanced mechanics and mechatronics. (4 years)

What we offer

An apprenticeship contract lasting 3 to 4 years with 1 to 2 days of theoretical training at the school, depending on the position.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality
    You hold Swiss nationality or a valid Swiss residence permit, or you are an EU national and will secure a work permit before starting your dual apprenticeship.
  • Educational background
    You have completed your compulsory schooling (e.g. “11ème” in Switzerland or “3ème” in France).
  • Language skills
    Proficiency in French (C1 level required).

Recruitment process for this programme

  1. Submit application
    For the Information and Document Assistant (AID) apprenticeship, apply online with your CV and add your cover letter and last three school reports before the deadline.

    For technical apprenticeships, recruitment is managed by the Union Industrielle Genevoise (UIG), which requires you to submit your CV, cover letter, school transcripts, and any additional assessments they may request (https://www.cep-formation.ch).
  2. Application review, interview and selection
    Your application will be reviewed and you may be invited to take part in an online interview with the hiring manager(s) to discuss your application, CERN and the position, and for you both to determine if it could be a good fit.
  3. Offer and onboarding
    If you are successful, you will receive a job offer. Once you accept, your onboarding journey begin!
