What you'll do
The Radiation Protection (RP) Group of the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Unit ensures that personnel on the CERN sites and the public are protected from potentially harmful effects of ionising radiation linked to CERN activities. The duties of CERN’s Radiation Protection Group include the assessment of radiation hazards from operating accelerators and experiments, the definition of protective measures as well as the legally required monitoring of the exposure of radiation workers and public to ionising radiation.
You would join the HSE-RP-CS (Characterisation & Services) section to play a key role in administering, supporting, and advancing the RP group’s high-performance computing infrastructure powering the FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations and the virtualized IT systems supporting our state-of-the-art radioanalytical laboratory.
Your responsibilities
- Review the existing Condor based software stack and investigate possibilities to accomodate the next generation of the FLUKA code (V5)
- Communicate regularly with end-users and provide technical support related to the cluster system
- Participate in further virtualization and upgrade of the laboratory's server/client IT infrastructure
- Investigate and prototype a software stack that allows for parallel deployment of new inhouse developed machine learning simulation tools on a Condor cluster

- Proficiency in Linux server/client and network administration
- Strong knowledge of Python
- Knowledge in web application development
- Basic experience with relational databases
- Familiarity of OpenStack would be a plus
- Your studies focused on Computer Engineering

- Linux and network administration
- Strong Python, Unix Shell scripting knowledge
- Knowledge of HPC Condor would be a plus but is not mandatory
- Web development technologies (HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript), knowledge in frameworks like React, Django would be a plus
- Git
- Basic SQL
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language

- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
