What you'll do

Join us and contribute to the development and commissioning of industrial control systems for CERN’s largest power installations. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge automation technologies and modern software engineering tools.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, develop and commission large, distributed control systems based on Siemens S7-1500 PLCs and the CERN's UNICOS framework.
  • Development of Matlab Simulink models for Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) testing.
  • Development of test scripts in Python.
  • Contribute to our CI/CD and automated testing framework.

Your profile

  • Experience in developing, testing, and commissioning Siemens S7-1500 PLC-based control systems.
  • Knowledge of automation technologies, including industrial fieldbuses and SCADA.
  • Experience with Python programming.
  • Knowledge of Git, Gitlab and CI/CD practices.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.

Your CERNDepartment

The SY department oversees the science and technology related to accelerator technical systems, including beam instrumentation, beam transfer, power converters, particles generation and their interaction with matter, and radio frequency systems. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of new hardware and software for CERN’s accelerator complex.
