What you'll do

Are you a Mechanical technician with a passion for challenging and exciting projects in the field of beam instrumentation for particle accelerators? Then seize the opportunity! Join the CERN Beam instrumentation group (BI) and be part of the team working on the production of Beam Loss Monitors for the CERN injectors and the High Luminosity LHC. You will be part of a multicultural diverse team working at the forefront of the scientific research, working in a very stimulating environment that will help you develop your skills in precision mechanics, assembly, vacuum testing, logistics, quality control, problem solving, documentation and ramp-up of a production.

Your responsibilities

  • Acceptance tests of arriving subcomponents.
  • Assembly of Beam Loss Monitors.
  • Vacuum tests.
  • Documentation of all steps of the production.

Your profile

  • Up to 2 years experience in quality assurance;
  • Up to 2 years experience in documentation;
  • Up to 2 years experience in work as vacuum technician;
  • Up to 2 years experience in mechanical assembly and machining (conventional or CNC);

Your skills

  • Able to read mechanical drawings;
  • Perform assembly work with high attention to the quality of the product;
  • Document of all steps of the production;
  • Working in a bigger team; good communication skills;
Ideal start date: 01/04/2026
Contract duration: 24 month contract
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree. You can’t hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.

The SY department oversees the technical systems related to accelerator beams, including instrumentation, beam transfer, power converters, and radio frequency systems.

It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of new hardware and software for CERN’s accelerator complex.
