Do you have experience in sustainability reporting? Do you enjoy gathering and analysing information to deliver powerful communications that meet the needs of a variety of stakeholders? Do you have good project management skills and the ability to share complex data and stories in way that is engaging, inspiring and which supports culture change?
Working in the Sustainability Office within the Organisational Support & Improvement team, the Sustainability Reporting & Communications Project Officer will work closely with a broad network of internal stakeholders, as well as external consultants, in delivering the Sustainability Reporting Project workstream.
The role will primarily focus on delivering CERN’s biennial sustainability report in 2027 that meets the needs of the Organization’s stakeholders, in particular with regard to the Social and Governance pillars.
You will also contribute to the development of CERN’s Sustainability Strategy, with dedicated actions to raise awareness CERN-wide about sustainability, for example through targeted campaigns and communications that support cultural change around sustainability.
Through these activities, you will develop hands-on experience in sustainability strategy creation, implementation and reporting within a dynamic, high-profile, international scientific and technical environment.
Your responsibilities
- Support the delivery of CERN's 2025-2026 Sustainability Report (to be published in late 2027), from planning through to publication, and then assist preparations for the subsequent 2027-2028 reporting cycle.
- Write and edit social and governance content to a high standard for the Report, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with relevant GRI standards.
- Ensure adherence to the project plan, timeline, and documented approvals process.
- Produce engaging content for different channels and audiences, such as web, social media, short articles, and other formats that is consistent with strategy and reporting.
- Contribute to the development of an internal CERN e-learning module on sustainability.
- Support the planning and delivery of sustainability-related campaigns and events as needed.
- Track regulatory developments and evolving reporting standards (GRI, CSRD, ESRS) relevant to CERN's ESG framework.

Your profile
- Experience of drafting sustainability or ESG reports in a corporate, NGO, research institution or public sector context, or in an advisory capacity.
- Experience managing complex, multi-workstream projects against firm deadlines with documented governance.
- Experience developing and implementing communications plans and outreach activities is desirable.
- Experience with digital content management systems and sustainability microsite or web content is desirable.
- Experience in a scientific, academic or intergovernmental setting is desirable.
- Your studies focused on Sustainability, Communications.
Your skills
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate, well-structured content for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work across functions, build trust, and obtain buy-in from varied stakeholders.
- French language proficiency is strongly desirable.
- Knowledge of GRI, CSRD/ESRS, or equivalent reporting frameworks and data visualisation or infographic design skills are desirable.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language (French language proficiency is strongly desirable)

- By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
