What you'll do

Join a multidisciplinary project team designing, fabricating and testing a new generation of components for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC).  


 

Be in charge of fabricating the new HL-LHC cryogenic distribution lines (QXL), relying on a wide range of technologies, either at CERN or through subcontracting in industry.  

 

Fabrication methods, state-of-art machining, sheet-metal forming, welding, pressure vessels, ultra-high vacuum technology, contract management and fabrication follow-up, safety, reliability, product lifecycle management are just a few of the key words related to this position.? 


Your responsibilities

  • Manage the fabrication of mechanical components and assemblies subcontracted to CERN industrial suppliers for the Cryogenic Distribution Lines for the HL-LHC project.
  • Lead activities propaedeutic for fabrication, such as defining and procuring suitable raw materials and standard components, prepare fabrication sequences and welding procedures (welding book) and define QA-QC in line with relevant standards.
  • Contribute to the mechanical design of components and equipment for accelerators, focusing on manufacturing drawings, for the Cryogenic Distribution Lines for the HL-LHC project.
  • Participate in a multi-technology project, in close interaction with other engineering teams and services.

Your profile

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical fabrication and related methods and processes particularly welding as well as machining, metal sheet working and mechanical assembling, applying industrial standards, in a professional context within industry or research centres.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality management processes: knowledge of quality control procedures and standards applicable to mechanical production such as metrology, NDT.
  • Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings relying on ISO GD&T standard.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and technical specifications.

Your skills

  • Production of 2D drawings and 3D models: ISO dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Contract management.
  • Knowledge and application of manufacturing methods and work preparation, and application of joining techniques: welding.
  • Design and construction of cryostats.
