Linux Administrator

What you'll do

Join the Linux system administration team for the accelerator control system and contribute to the evolution of the core platform by implementing new storage services, based upon a high-end commercial storage appliance. You will work closely with experienced system administrators, infrastructure experts and software engineers, including collaborations with the CERN IT department and Computer Security team. This will be an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a unique and exciting environment.

Your responsibilities

Configure NetApp storage appliance and integrating it into the configuration management systems used by the sysadmin team.
Establish appropriate access control and data segmentation to minimise cybersecurity risks associated with the network filesystems.
Ensure that the configuration of the storage appliance includes a high level of redundancy, ensuring business continuity in the event of failures.
Establish an appropriate data backup scheme and recovery plan.
Ensure that the appliance provides appropriate storage for the control system Kubernetes infrastructure.
Migrate control system data from existing NFS servers to the new appliance.

A monthly stipend between 6372-7004 Swiss Francs per month (tax free) depending on your degree.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
