What you'll do
Join the Linux system administration team for the accelerator control system and contribute to the evolution of the core platform by implementing new storage services, based upon a high-end commercial storage appliance. You will work closely with experienced system administrators, infrastructure experts and software engineers, including collaborations with the CERN IT department and Computer Security team. This will be an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a unique and exciting environment.
Your responsibilities
- Configure NetApp storage appliance and integrating it into the configuration management systems used by the sysadmin team.
- Establish appropriate access control and data segmentation to minimise cybersecurity risks associated with the network filesystems.
- Ensure that the configuration of the storage appliance includes a high level of redundancy, ensuring business continuity in the event of failures.
- Establish an appropriate data backup scheme and recovery plan.
- Ensure that the appliance provides appropriate storage for the control system Kubernetes infrastructure.
- Migrate control system data from existing NFS servers to the new appliance.

Your profile
- Experience with Linux system administration is essential.
- Familiarity with common security issues affecting Linux systems.
- Experience with network filesystem management (such as NFS) is essential.
- Familiarity with object storage systems such as S3 is desired, but not mandatory.
- Your studies focused on Software Engineering.
Your skills
- Solid understanding of Git version control is essential.
- Knowledge of Ansible configuration management is desirable.
- Kubernetes container orchestration knowledge is desirable.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
