What you'll do

Join our team of control and automation experts and contribute to the development of the UNICOS-CPC framework, used CERN-wide for the development of PLC-based control systems. Your work will focus on PLC code generation tools, supported by a modern software engineering workflow including automated build, test and deployment.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and support the UNICOS-CPC resource package, a framework for standardised PLC code generation supporting Siemens and Schneider PLCs.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of CI/CD pipelines for the automation of framework building and testing.
  • Provide support to framework users, both internal and external to CERN.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of new automation technologies, and to the next generation of controls at CERN.

Your profile

  • Background and/or interest in the field of automation and control.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills.
  • Some experience in Siemens and Schneider PLC platforms, or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge and experience in industrial communications protocols would be an asset.

Your skills

  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Some experience of PLC programming using IEC-61131 languages, or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration based on Gitlab CI would be an asset.
  • Initial experience in C#.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.
