What you'll do

The Engineering Department’s Information Management group is seeking a highly motivated full stack software engineer with strong technical skills and a passion for learning.

You will join an international team within the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) section, delivering engineering information management solutions for the entire accelerator complex and its detectors.


This ecosystem manages millions of engineering documents, product definitions, and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models.


Currently, the group is leading a major modernisation effort focused on the Engineering Data Management System (EDMS), leveraging modern technologies to streamline and evolve the engineering landscape, improve data accessibility and workflows, and support the scale and complexity of future engineering projects.


Your responsibilities

  • Implement backend applications using Java.
  • Build web applications using modern technologies (React, TypeScript).
  • Analyse existing software packages, streamline them, and reimplement them following a new architecture.
  • Take part in the complete modernisation of one of the group's flagship applications - Engineering Data Management System (EDMS).

Your profile

  • Experience and/or strong knowledge in developing and maintaining large software projects using Java.
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge in full-stack development, including front-end applications built with React or Angular or TypeScript.
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server as part of large-scale systems.
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge in Agile and DevOps practices in a collaborative team environment.

Your skills

  • Backend development using Java.
  • Frontend development using React or Angular or TypeScript.
  • Experience with SQL databases (i.e. Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Git.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.
