What you'll do
Join CERN’s CMS team and provide support on radiation protection matters while taking charge of simulations to evaluate the operation scenarios of the detectors and define the needed shielding. You will also participate in long shutdown activities as key member of the field radiation protection team, and provide directions and support to the different teams involved in the process.
Your responsibilities
- Support the CMS Technical Coordination (TC) Team in operational matters during shutdowns relating to radiation. protection and optimisation of personnel dose.
- Contribute to feasibility studies and simulations for shielding options and upgrade planning, as relevant.
- Perform simulations of prompt radiation throughout detectors and cavern.
- Collaborate with HSE-Radio Protection on activation-scenario simulations, especially during shutdowns, to optimise ALARA planning.
- Disseminate radiation-simulation results and materials across CMS.
- Respond to simulation and analysis requests from CMS subsystems, prioritizing according to TC needs.
- Maintain and update the CMS nominal FLUKA model.
- Participate in radiation and activation measurements in the CMS cavern to both benchmark the FLUKA module.
