What you'll do
In this role you will be the contact between the CMS experiment and the CERN IT department at CERN. You will manage the vitual machine pool, the Linux configuration of the VMs, and storage allocations.
Your responsibilities
- Be the contact between the CMS experiment and the CERN IT department.
- Manage virtual machine allocations of the experiment in OpenStack.
- Coordinate storage allocations with computing management and detector/physics organisations of CMS.
- Setup, configure, and administer existing VMs of the experiment using Puppet.
- Provide backup support for the management of the CVMFS content.
- Assist colleagues in the system administration of VMs.

Your profile
- Experience with Linux system administration and service configuration.
- Experience with shell scripting and Python.
- Experience with cloud systems, Openstack in particular is a plus.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems and computing service support is a plus.
- Your studies focused on Computer Science or Engineering.
Your skills
- Knowledge of system administrator tools like Puppet.
- Ability to strive in a multi-cultural environment.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
