Cryogenic Systems Engineer

What you'll do

In this role you will engage in the development of a cryogenic cooling loop for a superconducting system, including magnet and current leads. This includes participating in the magnet and leads development fitting the cooling requirements.

Your responsibilities

Design and operate cryogenic cooling systems with variable temperatures.
Assist in design of superconducting system meeting requirements for cryogenic cooling
Optimise thermal interfaces, at magnet and current leads level.
Execute experiment from cryogenic and superconducting system side.

Your profile

Experience using mechanical CAD software (e.g., CATIA or similar).
Experience with FEM software for mechanical and thermal analysis (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
Proven capability in organising and executing experimental campaigns using dedicated DAQ systems.
Your studies focused on Mechanical Engineering.

Your skills

Ability to prepare reliable designs of cryogenic and mechanical components for working system;
Data-analysis skills for characterisation of cryogenic cooling systems and its components;
Knowledge of the electromagnetic fundamentals of superconductivity and applications in current leads and magnets;
Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Contract duration: 24 month contract

Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.

You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
