What you'll do
As a Survey Engineer you will join the Geodetic Metrology group at CERN, where you will take part in the metrology and alignment of a wide variety of components used in the particle accelerators. You will be using state-of-the-art surveying tools and software to achieve the sub-millimetre accuracy necessary to achieve our goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate on two major projects and contribute to the efforts of the Geodetic Metrology team in the North Area. The SPS (Super Proton Synchrotron) complex is being prepared for a significant upgrade through the North Area Consolidation (NA-CONS) and the TCC2 renovation project. As part of this renovation, you will be in charge of the dismantling of the existing beamlines will be dismantled and the installation of the new beamlines, scheduled in 2028/2029.
Your responsibilities
- Perform project follow-up: participation in coordination meetings, schedule review and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Prepare and check the quality of inputs (theoretical beamline trajectories, installation drawing, component geometrical data).
- Carry out and supervise all geometrical measurements at every stage, from assembly to on-site installation, using standard 3D geodetic techniques such as laser tracker techniques.
- Coordinate and take part in survey activities, including network measurements, installation tasks, and alignment processes, from the preparation and supervision of interventions to their execution.
- Be responsible for data processing using a 3D least-squares adjustment application, including advanced stochastic analysis, as well as preparing technical documentation and presenting results.
- Define and implement a strategy for the tracing of the new beamlines and services.
- Actively contribute to the group's research and development activities related to alignment monitoring systems (e.g. ATS800, robotic platforms, Universal Alignment Platform), and participate in the development, testing and maintenance of in-house surveying software applications.
- Supervise external contractors and students on technical topic.
