What you'll do
Are you a motivated Mechatronics Engineer ready to support the development and operation of motion and sensing systems for Beam Intercepting Devices (BIDs) across CERN’s accelerator facilities? This role bridges operational support and R&D, focusing on sensor evaluation, experimental instrumentation, and motion system development. You will contribute to the performance, reliability, and precision of critical accelerator components by integrating mechatronic and software control aspects into robust, maintainable systems.
Your responsibilities
- Design and implement motion control and monitoring algorithms for BIDs as part of consolidation and upgrade activities for LS3.
- Develop and maintain software components in C++ and Python, contributing to the evolution of the general BID control and monitoring framework.
- Enhance and support operational tools, including piquet monitoring applications and expert user interfaces for hardware control and diagnostics.
- Integrate and validate new software features, performing code reviews, testing, and version control management to ensure high software quality and reliability.
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of communication interfaces with external systems, ensuring modularity, interoperability, and robust data/control pipelines across interconnected systems.

Your profile
- Solid experience in software development for control or data acquisition systems, ideally in a scientific or industrial environment.
- Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming, particularly in C++ and Python, with good software engineering practices.
- Good knowledge of real-time systems, device communication protocols, or hardware-software integration.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities, with a structured and analytical approach to technical challenges.
- Your studies focused on Control Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering.
Your skills
- Proficiency in C++ and Python.
- Proficient with software version control tools (e.g. Git).
- Understanding of modular software architecture and interface design principles.
- Familiarity with motion control systems, data acquisition, or device communication.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to shared codebases.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
