What you'll do
The Engineering Department (EN) provides CERN with the Engineering expertise, Infrastructure Systems, and Technical Coordination necessary for the design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.
The position is within the Transport and Handling Engineering Group (EN-THE), which is responsible for preparing, organising, and coordinating all transport and handling operations for the CERN accelerators and experiments. The Group also manages the transport of thousands of conventional and unconventional items, as well as chemical and radioactive products, each year.
As a Technical Engineer in EN-THE, you will be part of the Handling Equipment Maintenance (EN-HE-HEM) Section, which manages and maintains all the industrial transport, handling and lifting equipment to ensure reliable performance throughout its lifecycle.
Your responsibilities
- Manage the equipment fleet, the associated maintenance contracts, and resource planning, ensuring availability, reliability, and compliance with operational requirements.
- Supervise contractors’ activities on site, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations and technical requirements throughout execution.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, equipment records, and configuration data.
- Develop and optimise maintenance strategies, monitor fleet performance using Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) tools, and contribute to continuous improvement, modernisation, and long-term asset management programmes.
- Manage procurement activities within existing supply and maintenance contracts, including placing orders and ensuring alignment with technical specifications.
- Contribute to preparing the specification, procurement, commissioning and maintenance of special transport vehicles at CERN, with a strong focus on customised equipment for underground transport and handling activities.
- Contribute to defining technical requirements and to the design and development of industrial and customised vehicles by preparing detailed technical specifications, in close collaboration with users, technical services, and suppliers.

Your profile
- Demonstrated experience in the maintenance and commissioning of a wide range of standard and customised industrial trucks.
- Proven experience in the contract management and on-site supervision of contracts (maintenance) of industrial trucks.
- Proven experience in the use of EAM tools.
- Experience in electrical and control systems would be an asset.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanics or Electromechanics or a related field.
