What you'll do
Are you an Electromechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Technician eager to take part in the development, manufacturing, and testing of electronic equipment for the quench protection systems of superconducting magnets in the world’s most powerful particle accelerator? Take part! Within the Technology (TE) Department, in the Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity (MPE) Group, you will be responsible for the installation, de-installation, and testing of electronic crates. You will also implement and operate custom-made electronics for the LHC superconducting magnet protection system.
Your responsibilities
- Installing and de-installing equipment in the LHC tunnel.
- Organising acceptance tests and ensuring the correct reception of new electronic equipment.
- Supporting maintenance activities and keeping system documentation up to date.
- Operating test benches to qualify electronic equipment and contributing to their development.
- Participating in the commissioning and maintenance of protection systems.
- Maintaining and updating databases related to system operation and maintenance.
- Preparing and compiling technical and operational documentation.

Your profile
- Basic experience with electronics and measurement techniques.
- First experience in assembling electronic crates, racks, and test benches.
- Knowledge of power electronics and related control systems.
- Understanding of electronics testing, assembly, and maintenance procedures.
- Experience with installation, testing, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Your studies focused on Electromechanics, Electronics or a related field.
Your skills
- Manual skills such as connector making, cabling, and assembly.
- Ability to prepare and maintain technical documentation.
- Attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
Medical hazard
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
Employment conditions
- A valid driving licence.

- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree. You can’t hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
