What you'll do
Join the Geodetic Metrology group at CERN, where you will take part in the metrology and alignment of a wide variety of components that are used in particle physics experiments! You will use the latest state-of-the art surveying tools and software to achieve the sub-millimetre accuracy necessary to meet our goals. You will primarily contribute to the maintenance and alignment of the SPS complex during the Long Shut down 3 (LS3) and take part in various alignment activities across the injector complexes and the LHC. Additionally, you will ensure the quality and coherence of the nominal geometry data within the CERN database and improve the workflow from engineering to alignment in the CERN accelerator complex.
Your responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate survey activities, including network measurements, installation tasks, and alignment processes, from the preparation and supervision of interventions to their execution and documentation.
- Carry out, and supervise, the geometrical measurements at all stages of the production of the components from assembly to installation in situ using standard geodetic 3D techniques as well as laser tracker techniques.
- Be responsible for the data processing using a 3D least squares adjustment application, comprising advanced stochastic analysis, creation of documentation and presentation of the results.
- Contribute to interfaces with the layout and survey database in preparation of the new installations and alignment campaigns in LS3.
- Ensure data consistency between different databases by comparing information from different sources.
- Be involved in the testing process of the survey software developed at CERN.
- Contribute actively to the R&D activities of the group related to alignment monitoring systems as well as participating in the development and maintenance of in-house surveying software applications.
