What you'll do
As a Mechanical Technician, you will join the ATLAS Detector Operation Group at CERN and be part of the team that is maintaining and operating the ATLAS detector as well as supporting the detector upgrade. In this upgrade you will play a crucial role, taking part in significant installations of the detector systems in the challenging environment of the experimental cavern. Your versatility, hands-on experience and strong team spirit will be essential to mastering the exciting challenges the upgrade presents.
Your responsibilities
- Installation of new sub-detectors involving specialised mechanical tooling and precise positioning.
- Installation of specific access platforms and standard scaffolding towers in various configurations.
- Participation to sub-detector movements, which require accurate positioning and the operation of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, as well as electromechanical equipment.
- Definition of manufacturing methods.
- Manufacturing of parts and tooling using both conventional and CNC machines.
- Assembling of different components according to instructions, with adjustments to ensure optimal functionality.
- Application of mechanical measurement techniques and conventional dimensional metrology.

Your profile
- Demonstrated experience in on-site installation of mechanical devices or structures.
- Strong experience in machining using both conventional and computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) machines.
- Good understanding of mechanical design drawings and tolerance specifications.
- Experience in scaffolding or personnel-platform installation would be an asset.
- Initial experience in operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical equipment would be an asset.
- Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanics or a related field.

Medical hazard
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
- Exposure to risk of falling from heights during scaffolding assembly and dismantling operations.
Employment conditions
- A valid driving licence.
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
- Interventions in underground installations.
