What you'll do
As an Junior Electrical Engineer within the Cabling Section, you’ll play a key role in expanding, strengthening, and maintaining CERN’s signal and power cable installations, required for various systems within the CERN accelerators. In this role, you will also be closely involved in the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) programme. This major upgrade requires the installation of more than 800 km of signal cables over the next three years, offering a unique opportunity to participate in one of CERN’s most ambitious and technically demanding projects.
Your responsibilities
- Analyse requests for new cable circuits and for modification of existing ones;
- Define cables routing taking into technical constraints including cable trays occupancy, electromagnetic compatibility and safety rules;
- Ensure the compatibility between the cable type required and the selected connector;
- Revise cable lists;
- Prepare planning and cost estimation;
- Prepare execution documentation for CERN's electrical installation contractor;
- Organise, supervise and ensure safety on your worksites, requiring interactions with contractors and CERN users from other groups/departments;
- Ensure comprehensive and timely reporting;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and optimisation of the section's processes and workflows;
- Development of quality plans and procedure.

- Your studies focused on Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
Your skills
- Knowledge in the domain of electrical cables for signal transmission and power distribution;
- Knowledge in the domain of connectors for signal and power cables;
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables), and knowledge of VBA for task automation;
- Project planning skills (Gantt charts, progress tracking);
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Employment conditions
- A valid driving licence.
- Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.

- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field and your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You must have a university degree and can’t hold a PhD.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
