What you'll do

You will join the Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) Group, which designs, constructs and tests superconducting and normal-conducting magnets for CERN’s accelerator complex, develops magnet cryostats, and provides critical operational support. Within the Low Temperature Superconductors and Characterization (LSC) Section, you will contribute to the development and supply of superconducting wires and cables (Nb-Ti and Nb₃Sn) for accelerator magnets and R&D projects, including high-field magnets and medical applications. In this hands-on role, you will take part in the fabrication, testing and characterization of superconducting materials essential to CERN’s current and future accelerator performance.

Your responsibilities

  • Perform reception and acceptance tests of materials at room temperature, prepare samples for optical imaging analysis and organise storage for superconducting wires and cables;
  • Prepare and test samples of superconducting wires and cables, performing characterization measurements at cryogenic temperatures;
  • Support, operate and maintain cryogenic test stations incorporating high field superconducting magnets;
  • Contribute to the development and construction of new cryogenic test stations with high field superconducting magnets;
