On 2 May 2018 CERN migrated its Applicant Tracking System (ATS, the software that enables candidates to apply for our programmes/positions and for CERN to manage all applications) to a new tool called SmartRecruiters. For a transition period of several months, both the former ATS tool (eRT) and the new one will operate in parallel.
Will my existing eRT account be migrated?
No. If you have an account in our previous tool eRT, please note that it will not be automatically migrated to the new tool. As soon as you submit a fresh application via our Smartrecruiters platform you will automatically create a new candidate profile.
What happens to my existing, open applications in eRT that I submitted before April 30th?
Any application you made before April 30th for a given student, graduate or professional programme in eRT will be processed accordingly, with the exception of the Short-Term Internship Programme for which you will need to re-apply to be considered in the future.
Once you start applying for positions via our new tool, your candidate profile will be active in both systems during a limited transition time. Therefore, you can expect email notifications from both systems.
What about documents that I have to upload?
Please note that, in the new system you must upload all your documents (CV, diploma, reference letters) at the time of submitting your application, as it is impossible to add additional documents once the application has been submitted. Follow the instructions provided!
Accessing my candidate profile
To access your candidate profile, please visit this page. If you applied with LinkedIn you can log in with your LinkedIn credentials. Otherwise log in with the email address you used to apply. If this is the first time that you access your profile, you will need to set a password. Follow the instruction on this page.
Once you are logged in, you will see an overview of all the applications you have submitted.

Editing my personal details
Please note that your personal details cannot be edited via your candidate profile. You can add/modify your personal details when submitting a new application.
Keeping track of my applications
Log in to your candidate profile (please see “Accessing my candidate profile” above) and you will be able to see the stage of each application you have submitted: click on the relevant application to view its status and history.
Can I withdraw my application?
Yes. To do so, simply log in to your candidate profile (please refer to “Access your candidate profile” above), click on the relevant application, then at the bottom of the page click on "No longer interested in being considered? View Options" where you can manage the different ways you can withdraw your application.
Replying to a message I received from SmartRecruiters
You can either reply directly from your email inbox, or by logging in to your candidate profile (please refer to “Access your candidate profile” above), then click on the title of the relevant application, and at the bottom right corner of the message you would like to reply to, click on the left-facing arrow. Write your message and click “Send”.
